Name: Juniperus Chinensis Itoigawa
Family: Cupressaceae
Country of origin: Cina, Giappone, Mongolia
Blooming period: Spring
History and fun facts: its greenish berries turn into brown buttons when ripening.
Excellent Bonsai amongst Japanese conifers, juniperus chinensis itoigawa bonsai naturally shows a random pattern. Wrapped in a reddish cortex, which is very easy to peel off, this tree follows original patterns because of its great flexibility. The blooming of Itoigawa is completed when its small berries become bright purple. Desired by all because of its malleability, it doesn't require particular care: it prefers ventilated spots and fears the summer heat, even when the temperature rises above 25°C. It copes well in the winter cold, as long as the roots are protected when the temperature falls below 5°. In order to prevent the roots from rotting, the soil should be always moist but not overly wet, giving generous watering during summer, waiting for the soil to be dry before watering it again. These small precautions will be enough to give necessary strength to the bonsai, which will reward you designing a beautiful zen-filled space in your own house.
