Malus: the bonsai apple tree that does not fear diseases and pests

Malus or wild apple is among the most beautiful species to grow as bonsai. It produces an abundant flowering in spring. The ancient pink buds in fact generate very nice and fragrant white flowers, which are then transformed into small (edible) apples with a diameter of about 3/5 cm. It also grows fast and is a very resistant plant, which is unlikely to be attacked by diseases and pests.

The Malus bonsai prefers a very bright but sheltered position (better if with a net) from the sun's rays too intense in summer; it resists very well in the cold, down to -20 ° C.
It adapts to any type of well-drained soil.
It must be abundantly irrigated from spring to autumn, even twice a day.
Throughout the growing season, the malus must be fertilized every 15 days with a good slow-release fertilizer rich in phosphorus.
