Peperomia green gold

Variegated Peperomia obtusifolia, also called "green gold", is a plant native to the tropical areas of South America. This species, among the most rustic of the genus, has succulent stems typical of a succulent plant. This indoor plant is characterized by the presence of large glossy fleshy leaves with an obovate shape. The dark green color is alternated by a yellow, cream colored variegation that tends to disappear in the older leaves or in low light conditions. In summer it produces numerous white flowers gathered in spikelets, in the center of the plant. The compact nature and the ornamental foliage make the peperomia obtusifolia particularly suitable for embellishing offices or interiors. It is also a plant that requires little care and this makes it an ideal green companion.

Peperomia green gold: how to take care

Exposure and brightness: coming from tropical areas, Peperomia loves high humidity and high temperatures. On the contrary, he fears winter frosts, for this reason it is good to cultivate it in an apartment. It does not ask for direct sunlight, but certainly appreciates a bright environment in order to grow well. Place it in a place that is not exposed to drafts. In low light conditions it tends to lose its variegation.

Irrigation: From the spring and then throughout the summer the peperomia must be watered with moderation, allowing the soil to dry between one wetting and another, thus avoiding water stagnation. During the winter it is advisable to reduce even more the water supply. To increase the humidity of the microclimate you can spray the leaves and leave pebbles in the saucer, which you will fill with water. This allows the water to evaporate slowly.

Fertilization: During the spring-summer period the Peperomia should be fertilized every 3 weeks with NPK fertilizer, better if specific for green plants.

N.B. The specifications described above may vary depending on the climate of the area where the plant is placed and the season
