Livistona, the baroness of the palms

Livistona, also known as Livistona rotundifolia, is part of the Arecaceae family. It is a palm tree native to the forests of Asia and Australia, where its leaves can grow up to two meters in length. The name derives from the baron of Livingston, Patrick Murray, founder of the Edinburgh botanical garden. It is an indoor plant very ornamental and typical of tropical places, but now widespread in apartments around the world as a real design element. The name of rotundifolia is obviously referred to the silhouette of the large leaves that come together in a single (rounded) surface and then fracture with growth. It can be confused with Chamaeropsis Humilis, which traces its forms and cultivation properties, but which differs in height and diffusion zones (mainly Mediterranean).
The Livistona shows a central stem from which the branches branch off. Each branch gives rise to a single leaf, with a glossy waxy appearance and a bright green color. Only in the adult plant branches and trunk appear brown with fibrous / scaly residues. It is a houseplant that has purifying properties and fights various ailments, including eye irritation, headaches and fatigue.
The care to be given to this dwarf palm plant is not difficult: it loves bright places and it resists well even at high temperatures, even if it is better not exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources. The temperatures to which it is exposed, in winter, should not exceed 15 ° C. This Livistona rotundifolia grows well in a substrate composed of universal soil mixed with sand and clay and slightly acidic. It must be watered regularly to keep the soil always slightly damp; it also likes nebulisations on the leaves to maintain the right humidity. It should be fertilized once a month from spring to autumn, preferably with fertilizer for green plants
