The botanical name Asplenium derives from the Greek: "asplenon" or "spleen grass", because in past centuries it was used to treat diseases of the spleen.
Like all ferns, it is an evergreen that has remained in mystery for decades because its ease of reproduction in the absence of flowers was not understood. It was then discovered that the leaves themselves produce the spores, in the underlying part. The Asplenium fern is epiphyte, which means that it grows "on board" of the branches of other plants, which give it an almost permanent shading.
Its leaves develop in a sort of "rosette" from the center, and are of a light green color with a shiny surface. The ability of this fern is to absorb polluting elements makes them ideal for growing indoors. The growth must therefore take place away from direct sunlight but in any case not in a dark and humid environment (even in the bathroom) and if the latter is not available, it is necessary to nebulize the leaves frequently. The ideal temperature of the Asplenium fern is between 18 and 25 ° C. The soil must be made of porous material, preferably made up of peat, dry leaves and soil for indoor plants.
Being cultivated in a different environment from the natural one, it should be fertilized about every 20 days during the vegetative period. The fern asplenium will give you a corner of green definitely out of the ordinary!
