White orchid: not only beauty but also mythological references
Certainly the white orchid is a plant with important meanings, which revolve around its charm and its sensuality: mythology associates it with Orchis, a young Greek who was punished with death for his immoral conduct. The gods, fascinated by his beauty, caused a flower to remind him of the drops of his blood. Fleshy and immaculate petals, a pronounced mouth and two or six leaves of a deep green from which emerge thin stems: this is how the white Orchid, essential and refined, is ideal for furnishing any environment giving it an exotic touch.
Care The white orchid loves the sun, never direct but constant, and airy environments; the temperatures are 23-24 degrees, while the excessive air currents are not recommended. Watering must keep the roots always humid, preventing stagnation: it will be sufficient to water 2 times a week in summer and one in winter. The white orchid lives on inert soil, therefore needs to be supported with fertilizer based on nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, in spring and autumn. The repottings of the white orchid must be performed paying attention to the roots: the new vase must always be slightly bigger than the previous one. It is possible, during repotting, to eliminate the roots that are dead or damaged.
fu il botanico Blume ad affidare, nel 1752, alla Phalaenopsis questo nome, perché gli ricordava una falena.
