Pseudolarix belongs to the Pinaceae family, but it is a unique species of its kind. Originally from China, but very widespread in Central Europe and also in the Italian Alps, it is one of the most appreciated bonsai for its aesthetic appearance. It is a very elegant plant, with long leaves, gathered in small bunches, of a particular shade of bright green. In the period of vegetative awakening its buds are instead of a very intense red-purple tone to give it a unique charm. The pseudolarix is a deciduous bonsai, and in autumn all their needles become of a fabulous orange color, which in nature paints the alpine valleys, to then fall, leaving the bare trees throughout the winter. It is very popular as a bonsai plant due to its radical change over the seasons.
Pseudolarix: how to take care
Exposure and brightness: Pseudolarix must be placed in the sun, however, to prevent the leaves from burning in direct sunlight in the middle of summer (often due to lack of moisture at the roots), it would be good to place it in a semi-shaded area. This bonsai is extremely resistant and requires no winter protection up to temperatures below -15 ° C / -20 ° C. It produces shorter and more compact needles in cooler climates plus, similar to their natural habitat, in hot and humid conditions they will tend to grow more.
Irrigation: Pseudolarix requires an important water supply, so it is advisable to make sure that the soil is always moist between one wetting and another. During the summer it may need more water. From time to time the hair can be sprayed.
Fertilization: the fertilizations must be carried out during the vegetative period with a specific fertilizer for bonsai, a slow release.
N.B. The specifications described above may vary depending on the climate of the area where the plant is placed and the season
Also called golden larch due to the color of the needles in autumn
